Visakhapatnam – The Indian Navy today commissioned INS Taragiri, an indigenously built stealth frigate, at Visakhapatnam. This event marks a significant stride in India’s naval modernization and its “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) initiative in defence manufacturing.

Taragiri is the third ship of the Project 17A Nilgiri-class frigates, constructed by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) in Mumbai. Designed with enhanced stealth features, advanced weaponry, and sophisticated sensors, the warship is poised to significantly augment the Navy’s combat capabilities. Its advanced design includes improved survivability, maneuverability, and a formidable arsenal for anti-surface, anti-air, and anti-submarine warfare.

The commissioning showcases India’s growing expertise in designing and building state-of-the-art naval platforms. INS Taragiri will bolster India’s maritime security, extending its strategic reach and operational effectiveness across the Indo-Pacific region.
