The administrative control of the Ichchapuram-Palasa rail link has been officially transferred to the Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway (ECoR), which falls under the Visakhapatnam (Vizag) zone. This significant move by Indian Railways addresses a long-standing demand from public representatives and local organizations in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district.
Previously, this vital rail section, covering approximately 40 kilometers in the northern part of Andhra Pradesh, was under the jurisdiction of the Khurda Road Division, headquartered in Odisha. The shift means that all operational management, passenger amenity improvements, and infrastructure development for this stretch will now be handled directly from Visakhapatnam, a major railway hub within Andhra Pradesh.
Advocates for the change have consistently argued that managing the link from a distant division was inefficient and often led to delays in addressing local concerns and development needs. Bringing it under the Waltair Division is expected to streamline administration, enhance coordination with local authorities, and ultimately improve service delivery for commuters in the Srikakulam region. This strategic decision is viewed as a positive step towards better integrating railway services within the geographical and administrative boundaries of Andhra Pradesh.
