Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to commission the advanced stealth frigate INS Taragiri in Visakhapatnam (Vizag). This significant event marks a crucial addition to the Indian Navy’s capabilities and reinforces the nation’s commitment to bolstering its maritime security and defence preparedness.
INS Taragiri is the third ship of Project 17A frigates, an ambitious initiative aimed at indigenously building state-of-the-art warships. Designed with cutting-edge stealth features, the frigate will be challenging for enemy radars to detect, significantly enhancing its operational effectiveness. It is equipped with advanced weapon systems, sensors, and combat management systems, making it capable of operating in multi-threat environments.
The commissioning ceremony underscores India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) vision in defence manufacturing, showcasing the country’s growing prowess in warship design and construction. The Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has played a key role in its construction.
The induction of INS Taragiri will substantially boost the Indian Navy’s fleet, enabling it to better safeguard national interests, patrol critical sea lanes, and contribute to regional stability in the Indo-Pacific. Senior defence officials and naval commanders are expected to attend the ceremony, emphasizing the strategic importance of this new warship.
