Andhra Pradesh Cities See Ward Increases After Delimitation

Major changes are underway for several prominent cities in Andhra Pradesh, as the state government has finalized new ward counts following a comprehensive delimitation exercise. Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati are set to see a significant increase in their municipal wards, a move designed to ensure fairer representation based on current population figures.

Under the new mandate, Visakhapatnam (Vizag) will now boast 120 wards, a substantial increase that reflects its growing urban sprawl and demographic shifts. Vijayawada’s municipal corporation will be restructured into 86 wards, while the spiritual hub of Tirupati is slated to have 66 wards. These revised boundaries are crucial for upcoming urban local body elections, ensuring that each ward accommodates a roughly equal number of voters, thereby strengthening democratic principles at the local level. The exercise aims to align electoral divisions with contemporary demographic realities, setting the stage for future local governance.
