Vizag Railway Station Redefines Travel: Major Redevelopment Project Set to Transform the City’s Transit Hub
Visakhapatnam is on the fast track to a smarter, more modern future as the redevelopment of the Vizag Railway Station enters an advanced phase. With an investment of ₹500 crore, the project aims to give the city’s central station a complete transformation over the next two years, making it one of the most advanced railway terminals in South India.
The master plan includes 14 platforms and 16 lines, designed to handle a higher volume of passengers and trains efficiently. The redevelopment, being carried out under the Indian Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, includes an airport-style terminal with separate arrival and departure zones, ensuring smoother passenger flow and reduced congestion during peak hours.
Officials from East Coast Railway confirmed that civil works are progressing steadily and that the first phase — which includes platform upgrades and new roofing — will be completed in early 2026. Once operational, the redeveloped station will not only boost passenger experience but also strengthen Vizag’s position as a key transportation hub between Chennai and Howrah.
This modernization drive aligns with the government’s vision to turn Visakhapatnam into a premier urban destination, complementing ongoing developments like the new airport terminal at Bhogapuram and road connectivity projects across the region.
As redevelopment picks up pace, the new Vizag Railway Station promises to be a landmark of progress — blending heritage charm with world-class infrastructure for the city’s dynamic future.
