Vizag Hosts National PESA Mahotsav: Tribal Heritage Festival Kicks Off Tuesday
Visakhapatnam will host the two-day national PESA Mahotsav from December 23-24, 2025, celebrating the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996. The event features the launch of a PESA Portal and Indicators for real-time monitoring of tribal governance implementation across 10 states.
Organized by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj at venues like Visakhapatnam Port Authority Campus, Ramakrishna Beach, and stadiums, the festival includes special Gram Sabhas on PESA themes like community participation and resource protection. Additional highlights encompass tribal-language training modules, an e-book on Himachal's Kinnaur district, sports like kabaddi and a 10 km marathon, plus folk performances showcasing India's tribal diversity. Andhra Deputy CM Konidala Pawan Kalyan will inaugurate, drawing 2,000 participants from PESA states
This platform empowers tribal self-governance in Scheduled Areas, fostering cultural preservation and participatory democracy in Vizag's backyard. Locals can join free events for vibrant celebrations—expect traffic advisories near beaches and stadiums. It underscores Andhra's role in national tribal welfare.
